My daughter's MacBook Pro suffered a logic board failure after two years of hard use at college. It was out of warranty by then (no AppleCare), so I bought another one for her but kept the old one around. Apple would probably charge $800-$1000 to fix it, so I thought I might as well buy a new one.
I ran across the laptop in March in her room, and decided to look into fixing it myself. Found an excellent article on ifixit.com describing how to replace the logic board. Prices for boards on Amazon were running $680. I found this unit at MacOfAllTrades for $275 - what a deal! Bought a few needed accessories as well.
Long story short, the laptop is back in action again. Replacement took me about an hour. Hardest part was dealing with the delicate keyboard and backlight cables. Logic board came with fan, speaker, and microphone so I have some additional spare parts.
Thanks! I will definitely be back for parts, accessories, and maybe another refurbished laptop or Mini.
